COVID Update 09/07/21
Following on from the Premier's announcement, we’re excited to start reopening the rest of our facilities from 5am on Monday, 12 July.
(Zoom workouts are a great alternative, but there’s something extra fun about an in-person class!)
👍🏻 All of our facilities will be open from Monday, 12 July including group fitness, crèche, Swim School, the Wellness Suite (sauna, spa and the steam room), all pools (indoor and outdoor), and the gym
👍🏻 Please note that our Zoom group fitness classes will run through to Sunday as planned (timetable here)
👍🏻 Armadale Arena will be back to normal operations from Monday, 12 July
👍🏻 Masks will no longer required from Monday, 12 July, however, please maintain physical distancing and good personal hygiene at all times
😷 If you visit the Centre BEFORE Monday, you’ll still need to wear a mask (unless vigorously exercising or using the pools), follow the 2 square metre rule and be aware that we have a capacity of 150 people.
Thanks for your patience and understanding over the past few weeks - you've been amazing!
WE CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOUR FACES.
⭐ For further info about restrictions, see www.wa.gov.au or call the COVID helpline on 13COVID (13 26843)
⭐ Visit the City of Armadale's COVID-19 Information Hub here.
How do COVID lockdowns impact the Armadale Fitness and Aquatic Centre and Armadale Arena?
Given the uncertainty of the current situation, please note that any time a State lockdown is announced, all facilities at AFAC and Armadale Arena will close.
Reopening dates will depend on further announcements from the Premier and we will get this information to you via our Facebook Page and member email as soon as we can after the press conference. Thanks for your patience and understanding!
Any current lockdown notices will appear as a website banner alert at the top of this page, so please check there for specific details.
Please note that the Sauna and Steam room will close when masks are required.
What happens to crèche and group fitness bookings?
Our system will close for bookings during lockdowns. This means that you won’t be able to book any classes through the member portal until we have confirmed reopening dates. Please check the website banner at the top of the page for any current lockdown restriction notices.
What happens to my membership direct debit during a lockdown?
Due to uncertainty around the duration of State lockdowns, all membership payments will continue during lockdowns. Unfortunately, it’s not always possible to cancel everyone’s payments in time. Rest assured that your membership and/or Swim School membership will be credited for any time the Centre is closed due to State lockdowns.
If you wish to discuss your debit payments please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Will I have to pay full membership fees during a lockdown?
Membership fees will continue as usual; however, your membership will be credited accordingly to reflect any time the Centre was closed due to a State Government lockdown.
What happens to my Swim School direct debit during a lockdown?
Swim School memberships pay fortnightly in advance for two lessons (e.g. $15 per lesson x 2 = $30). You will be debited as normal (every second Monday), however you’ll receive a credit in arrears for any lessons missed during a lockdown.
Will my Swim School enrolment change during a closure?
No, your original lesson day and time will still apply. If there are any changes to your regular lesson slot, you’ll be contacted by a Swim School team member.
My child was close to passing their current level before a Centre closure; will they be reassessed?
After having a short break, it’s important for us to understand where each student is at with their Swim School journey. All students will be assessed shortly after we recommence lessons.
My usual lesson day and time is no longer suitable after lockdown, can I change it?
We understand that your schedule may have changed. We recommend submitting any changes before Swim School recommences to avoid missing out on your preferred lesson day and time.
Is it safe to visit AFAC, what measures do you have in place?
As per government requirements, we have a COVID Safe Plan to ensure that we have the correct measures and mitigations in place at our facilities. Our staff have all completed mandatory hygiene training, additional cleaning measures have been implemented across the facility and hand sanitisers are readily available.
The centre is also deep cleaned during any lockdown.
Are there restrictions on how many times a week I can visit?
There are no restrictions on the number of times that you visit us. You can come as many times a week as you like!
Is gym equipment being cleaned after every use?
Staff will clean equipment throughout the day.
We also ask that our members play their part and help maintain cleanliness by using disinfectant wipes to clean equipment before and after use. Please remember a full size towel is compulsory on all gym equipment.
What do I need to do differently?
To help maintain social distancing, you’ll notice floor markers have been placed around the centre to assist you in following these measures. Please be kind and courteous of your fellow members and staff.
To comply with contract tracing restrictions, visitors are reminded to scan into group fitness, gym and aquatics areas by using their membership band or fob. Casual entry will be required to provide contact details to reception upon purchase of an entry pass.
As per State Government requirements, you must also check in via the SafeWA app – even if you’ve scanned your membership fob.
If you are unwell or vulnerable, we ask that you continue to stay safe and access our virtual services from the comfort of your home. Although we’d love to see you, the safety, health and wellbeing of our community is our priority.
How will you make sure that equipment is safe to use during Swim School lessons?
The health and safety of our staff and community remains our top priority. All of the equipment used in lessons will be thoroughly cleaned throughout the day to ensure that high levels of hygiene are maintained.
Is there a minimum contract period?
No, we are glad to advise that all of our memberships are no-lock in contracts.
Is there a joining fee?
Yes, there's a one-off, $49 joining fee for new memberships.
Will my membership be renewed yearly or does it continue until cancelled?
Memberships will continue until cancelled by the member or the City of Armadale. 28 days notice will be required before cancellation can occur, and cancellation requests will be dealt with in person at Armadale Fitness and Aquatic Centre.
Are any membership discounts available?
For valid concession card holders, absolutely! We offer a concession rate of 20% for valid card holders – Aged, full time student, service, disability, widow B, sole parent, seniors, and health care cards.

What do I need to bring with me?

If the State Government requires me to wear a mask, do I have to wear one in the pools?
For safety reasons, masks aren’t required when swimming or using the spa.
Can I use KidSport vouchers for Swim School?
KidSport is a program administered by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries which makes it possible for eligible children to participate in community sport by offering up to $150 per calendar year towards club fees. AFAC's Active Armadale Swim School is a registered KidSport club under the newer KidSwim category.
Eligible children must be:
- Aged between 5 and 18 years of age
- Listed on a valid Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card
To use KidSport funding for Active Armadale Swim School you need to:

- Enrol in the Active Armadale Swim School. If you are already enrolled, you don’t need to do anything at this point
- Kidsport funding will be applied to your child’s enrolment, as a credit, once we have received payment from KidSport. Please allow up to 7 business days from when you send us the voucher code for the credit to be applied
Do I have to be enrolled in Swim School to use the Parent Portal?
No, new enrolments can made online.
How do I create an account to use the Parent Portal as an existing member?
Can I look at my child’s progress in their level at any time?
Yes! You can check progress through the Parent Portal (see our step-by-step guide here).
Please note that progress shown in the Parent Portal is to be used as a guide for your child’s progress. Skills needs to be completed a number of times and in different situations to be deemed as “Achieved”. If you have any questions about your child’s progress please visit the Swim School Deck Supervisor.
Can I change my child to a different day/time at any time?
Yes, you can use the Parent Portal to change class day and or times.
However, we discourage changing classes unless absolutely necessary as continual changes will harm your child’s progress.
How many times can I change my child's class in the Parent Portal?
We only encourage you to change classes for your child when absolutely necessary as continual changes will harm your child’s progress. Each of our instructors have a unique teaching style and your child needs time to adjust to their teaching methods to ensure the best possible progress.
Can anyone else see my child’s details through the Parent Portal?
No, only you will be able to see the child/children that are linked to you. Each family has their own individual login.
Can I view all my children and change their classes at the same time?
You will be able to view your child’s/children’s current enrolment details via the Parent Portal. However, if you wish to change classes, you'll need to do so for each individual child. They all have a unique learning journey!
Does the Parent Portal show me how many people are in the class?
No, the Parent Portal will only tell you which class, day, time, level, teacher and location your child is enrolled into.
Can I find out my child’s teacher through the Parent Portal?
Yes, you'll be able to see who your child's teacher is. You'll also be able to see the day, time, level, and location of your child's class.
Can I move my child to another level?
When your child is ready to progress, the Swim School Deck Supervisor will speak to you and give feedback on individual progress.
Can I see in the Parent Portal when my child is ready to progress to the next level?
Yes, when your child has “Achieved” all skills, they are ready to progress to the next level! The Swim School Deck Supervisor will speak to you and give feedback on individual progress.
What is the difference between “Introducing”, “Developing” and “Achieved” on my child’s progress?
Introducing: Your child has attempted the skill.
Developing: Your child is achieving some parts of the skill but other areas still require development.
Achieved: Your child has achieved the skill a number of times reflecting their proficiency in the skill.
My child’s progress is 90%. Can I move them to the next level?
No, all skills need to be achieved before your child can progress to the next level. Each level is individually tailored to allow for smoother progression through the program. It's imperative that each skill is achieved proficiently before moving onto a harder skill.
How can I work on the skills my child has not yet achieved?
Your Swim School membership includes unlimited, 7-day-a-week access to the pools for your enrolled child and accompanying adult.
We recommend you visit the pools outside of lesson time to practise the skills that still need work. During Swim School operating hours, our Swim School Deck Supervisors are always on hand to help assist parents with any enquiries and give individual feedback.
Can I update my child’s progress?
No, your child’s instructor will update their progress at regular intervals. If you have any concerns regarding your child’s progress, please see the Swim School Deck Supervisor during Swim School operating hours.
How often is my child progress updated?
Each child is unique and some skills take longer to develop than others. Your child’s progress will be updated as soon as they achieve the desired outcomes for the specific skill.
If I have a question about my child’s progress what should I do?
Please direct any questions you have to our Swim School Deck Supervisor - they're always happy to help and give feedback! The optimum time to do this is during your child’s lesson as the Swim School Deck Supervisor can give accurate feedback whilst your child is completing their lesson.
Can I suspend my Swim School membership?
Not quite ready to dive back into Swim School? That’s okay, memberships can be suspended for a minimum of 1 week and a maximum of 4 weeks. A $5.00 fee will apply to each suspended week, which will allow us to hold your place in our Swim School.
Please come into the Centre to suspend your membership and pay any applicable fees. Note that your suspension will only begin once you’ve received confirmation from our Membership Team.
Can I cancel my Swim School membership?
We’d be sad to see you go as a Swim School member. Please fill out our online form to submit a Swim School suspension request. Please note that your suspension will only begin once you’ve received confirmation from our Membership Team.
As per our terms and conditions, a minimum of 28 days notice is required to cancel.
