July Centre Closure

AFAC will be temporarily closed from Monday 6 July to Sunday 12 July inclusive to allow for essential maintenance and upgrade works across the facility.

We will reopen as normal on Monday 13 July, with all programs and activities recommencing at this time.

During the closure, there will be no access to the centre.

What works are taking place?

During the closure period, a range of maintenance and upgrade works will be completed across AFAC to improve the overall experience for members, visitors and user groups. 

Health & Fitness Enhancements

We’ll be making a number of improvements across our health and fitness spaces, with a focus on equipment upgrades and program improvements, including: 

  • Installation of all brand new Technogym health and fitness equipment within the Health Club and Group Fitness spaces  

  • Enhancements within the Group Fitness Studio

  • Launch of an updated Group Fitness timetable  

  • Transition from Omnia programming into a refreshed small group training offering, with new industry leading functional training equipment  

  • Launch of Les Mills Strength Development program

These enhancements are designed to improve member experience and provide greater variety and functionality across our fitness offering.

Please note – there will be no changes to the Aqua timetable and classes.  

Facility Access & Centre Improvements

To improve access, flow and the overall member experience, several upgrades will be taking place throughout the centre, including: 

  • New access gate arrangements and entry points

  • Internal facility improvements

  • Gate project works

Members may notice changes to the way they access some areas of the centre when returning. Information regarding access changes and frequently asked questions can be found below.

Pool Maintenance

A number of essential maintenance works will be undertaken across our aquatic facilities to support safety, water quality and long-term operation, including: 

  • Aquatic maintenance

  • Pool plant maintenance

  • Pool lane rope replacement across the 50m, Leisure, 25m and Program pools  

These works are important to ensure our aquatic spaces continue operating safely and efficiently.

Q: Can members access any part of the facility during closure? 

A: No, the entire centre will be closed during this period. 

 

Q: Will all programs resume after reopening? 

A: Yes, all programs will recommence as normal from Monday 13 July. 

 

Membership & BillingLink to FAQ2

Q: Will memberships be charged during this time? 

A: Memberships will be automatically suspended during the closure period. You will receive an autogenerated email confirming this suspension once it is applied.

 

Q: Do members need to do anything? 

A: No, everything will be handled automatically. 

 

Q: What happens if I have a Rehab Membership? 

A: Clients with active Rehab Memberships will have an additional week added to their current membership expiry date to account for the closure period. No action is required, this will be applied automatically. 

 

Swim SchoolLink to FAQ3

Q: Will Swim School lessons run during the closure period? 

A; No. Swim School will be taking its usual mid-year break during this time, with no lessons running from Monday 6 July to Sunday 12 July. Lessons will resume from Monday 13 July.

 

Q: Will I be charged for lessons during the Swim School break? 

A: No, you will not be charged for any lessons that fall within the break period.

 

Q: Will my lesson time change when Swim School returns? 

A: Your lesson day and time will remain the same, however you may notice a change in teacher or lane allocation when lessons resume. Any updates can be viewed via the Parent Portal, or by checking in with our team at the Swim School Hub when you arrive for your first lesson back. 

 

Aquatic & Facility AccessLink to FAQ4

Q: Why aren’t the pools accessible during the closure? 

A: During the closure period, essential maintenance and upgrade works will be taking place across the aquatic areas. For safety reasons, the pools and surrounding areas will not be accessible while these works are underway. 

 

Q: If I am an aquatic-only member, can I still access the dry side changerooms when the new gates are installed? 

A: Yes, the new dry side gates will still be accessible for all members, including aquatic-only members, to allow access to the dry side changerooms.

 

Group Fitness & Health Club ChangesLink to FAQ5

Q: What new equipment is being installed? 

A; AFAC is introducing all brand new Technogym equipment throughout the Health Club and Group Fitness spaces. 

This includes: 

  • New cardio equipment  

  • Technogym Strength equipment  

  • Replacement bikes in the Cycle Studio  

  • New equipment within our small group training spaces  

These upgrades are designed to enhance your training experience and provide members access to modern equipment and technology across the Health Club. 

 

Q: Will the layout of the gym change? 

A: Members may notice some changes to equipment layout and training spaces following the upgrades. These changes have been designed to improve our member’s training experience. Our team will be available to assist members in navigating the updated spaces and equipment. 

 

Q: Will there be changes to the Group Fitness timetable? 

A: Yes, there will be some changes to the Group Fitness Timetable following the reopening of the centre. 

The main changes will be: 

  • Transition from Omnia programming into a refreshed small group training offering, with new industry leading functional training equipment  

  • Launch of Les Mills Strength Development program 

  • Minor time changes to accommodate a wide variety of classes for our member in the upgraded studio

  • Minor time changes to cycle classes

Q: Why have some class times changed? 

A: Each timetable revision is completed to ensure members continue to have access to a wide variety of class styles across the week. To accommodate new classes within the main studio, some minor timetable adjustments were required. This will also help create smoother transitions between classes.

 

Q: Why is Omnia transitioning to a new format? 

A: Omnia equipment is being discontinued by the supplier. As part of our equipment upgrades, the existing Omnia equipment will be replaced with new training equipment (Universe). Our Omnia classes are being replaced with a like-for-like small group training class. These sessions will continue delivering functional, circuit-based training in a small group environment and will operate from the main Group Fitness Studio.

 

Q: What is Strength Development? 

A: Strength Development focuses on progressive strength training designed to build confidence, strength and lifting capability in a supportive group environment. Strength Development is being offered as an additional option for members that participate in Omnia Strong classes.

Q: What is happening to the Omnia Studio? 

A: As part of our Health Club upgrades, the Omnia Studio is being relaunched as the Active Studio — an expanded functional training space designed for member use. The new space will include upgraded functional training equipment, additional training opportunities and a dedicated sled track, creating a more versatile area for members to utilise as part of the expanded gym floor. The refreshed space has been designed to provide greater flexibility, functionality and training variety for members. 

 

Q: Will Senior Fitness classes still be running? 

A: Yes. While small group training programs will move into the main Group Fitness Studio, Senior Fitness classes will continue to operate within the Active Studio from 10:45am–11:15am, Monday to Friday. This ensures these classes can continue within a functional training environment while maintaining consistency for members. 

 

Q: Will Fitness for Teens still be running? 

A: Yes. Fitness for Teens will continue to operate as normal and there will be no changes to the program or location.  

 

Group Fitness Studio AccessLink to FAQ6

Q: How do I access the Group Fitness Studio with the new dry side gates? 

A: To access the Group Fitness Studio:

  1. Enter through the dry side gates

  2. Scan into the Group Fitness Studio through the new entry door  

Please note: 

  • Entry is via the new entry door only

  • Exit will remain through the original studio exit door  

This creates a one-way entry and exit flow.

 

Q: The previous line-up area is now obstructed by the new gates. Where do I wait for my class? 

A: Please enter through the dry side gates and wait in the member lounge area opposite the Group Fitness Studio until your class is ready to begin. 

 

Q: What if I need to leave during class (e.g. to use the bathroom)? 

A: If you need to leave during class:

  1. Exit via the studio exit door

  2. Re-enter through the dry side gates

  3. Scan back in through the new Group Fitness Studio entry door  

Please ensure you take your member wristband or casual class ticket with you. 

 

Q: Will staff be available to assist? 

A: Absolutely. Our team will be available throughout the transition period to help members navigate the new access arrangements and answer any questions.
